Forest Haven

You will visit Forest Haven early on in your adventure and you'll have to complete both its challenges inside the main island (which you can read about here) and in the adjacent Forbidden Woods dungeon. You will also have to visit this island later again to enter a hidden cave behind the waterfall. This short visit is necessary to enter Gale Isle (details here).

But there are also some sidequests to be had here.

Float to the Chart

Climb up to the ledge that leads to the forest dungeon (it's the plateau with the arrow). Once outside, look to the left and you will see an island in the distance. Change the direction of the wind to southeast, then hover to it using your Deku Leaf. You will find a treasure chest with Treasure Chart #3.

Firefly

The forest is home to a species of rainbow-colored Firefly (the brighter of the two types of glowing dots flying around inside Forest Haven). You can catch one in your Bottle.

In the GameCube version of Wind Waker, you need to bring it to the photographer on Windfall Island after you have completed his three photo challenges. The firefly is necessary to upgrade the standard Picto Box to the Deluxe Picto Box. In the Wii U version, this step is not needed.

Cheap Potions

You can also collect plenty of Boko Baba Seeds from the indigenous flora here. Simply target a Boko Baba Plant and use the Grappling Hookto steal one. Use these seeds to get potions in Hollo's Forest Potion Shop near the Deku Tree.

Nintendo Gallery

Do you have one of the pear-shaped Hyoi fruit that attracts seagulls? Then go into the Deku Forest and use the flower buds to get up high. Instead of flying down to the platform with the arrow, go into the other direction and hover across to the tallest flower, then use it to get up even higher and float to the second exit.

You will be outside (as seen in the above picture, to the right). Change the wind direction to the northeast, then hover across to the small island. Talk to the artist and take out one of the seagull fruit. Use the seagull to trigger the crystal switch in the forest rock wall. This will make the hatch open on the island you're standing on and the ladder drop from the trees. The ladder is there so that you can visit easily with your boat in the future.

The Nintendo Gallery is mostly meant for returning players who have already finished the quest once, but you can use it as soon as you've gotten the Picto Box DX (color version). Basically, any picture of a character you take is turned into a collectible figurine here, including friendly characters, enemies, and bosses. You can only submit one photo per day, but if you've got the Song of Passing you can easily go outside, forward time (play it twice), and come back in. The figures are then displayed in themed rooms behind the gallery doors. You can look at a figurine by pressing A and manipulate camera and zoom with the two analog sticks.

Piece of Heart #34: Forest Haven

Check the mailbox after you've come back from the Forbidden Woods. Komali's father's letter will have a heart attached.

Korok Tree Spirit Quest

You can take the forest spring water with you in your bottles. The contents of one Bottle can heal (multiple) withering trees. You'll need to hurry as the water will only last a certain amount of time. For the Gamecube release, Forest Water will last only 20 minutes, while in the Wii U release Forest water will last 30. Fill up a Bottle and travel to the following locations:

• B-1: Star Island
• B-2: Child Isle (travel here from B-1 -- don't warp)
• E-3: Eastern Fairy Isle
• B-4: Greatfish Isle
• A-5: Needle Rock Isle
• E-5: Oasis
• C-6: Shark Island
• G-6: Cliff Plateau Isles (inside the mini-dungeon)

Heal all of the trees and you will receive a Piece of Heart in return.
